Name: Mamie Juliette Mendell
Grade Started at Ascension: 4th Grade
Favorite Teacher: Reverend Kennedy because he was the smartest teacher I’ve ever had, and he could answer any question in the world. Class was never boring with him
Favorite Ascension Memory: Definitely this year’s homecoming and all of the nonstop craziness of the week!!
Future Plans: Attend LSU, major in kinesiology, and go to occupational therapy school afterward
Since Mamie has started at Ascension, she has been involved in many different ways. She was the Arts Prefect her Junior year, Student Life Prefect Senior year, a class leader during her time at SMP, has been a part of Cupcakes for Causes, and President of the SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions). She was a member of the Girls’ Basketball team, has been on Varsity Cheer for 4 years, and is currently on the Competition Cheer team. Something that she is very excited about for this school year is homecoming this year, and it exceeded her expectations. She would say it was the best homecoming in Ascension history! Other than homecoming, She is really excited about all of the pep rallies and events that her Leadership team gets to plan! She has a great team that works really well together, and she is excited to see what they will be able to do this year. Some activities that she enjoys participating in outside of school are tumbling, hanging out with friends and family, and being a die-hard LSU fan, going to every single home game. When asked who her biggest mentor is, she replied with, “I would say my dad is my biggest role model my whole life and has truly shown me what it’s like to be a good, respectful, and fun person. I would say, my cheer coach, Victoria, is my biggest mentor right now. She is determined to get us on the nationals floor and to be an all-around better squad. She pushes us like no other coach has, and it really motivates me.”
Mamie’s favorite thing about Ascension is that everyone knows each other and that she gets to be friends with so many underclassmen. We are one big happy blue gator family, and she loves it! When asked to give some advice to the underclassmen, she said, “Be yourself, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and get involved, make the BEST memories; you only go through the high school experience once.”
