This year, Ascension has decided to do advisory a little differently. Not only is every advisory separated by gender, but we are starting a new tradition: advisory potlucks. Food is one of the best ways to bring people together, and through a potluck activity with our classmates, we are able to share all of the things we love and learn more about each other!
On our second Friday of school, we officially held our very first advisory potluck. The previous day, we planned what we were going to bring and came up with a mascot and name for our advisory. All of the girls in my advisory were super efficient and came up with wonderful ideas for our designs. We also came up with a collaborative idea for our poster and advisory name.
The advisory finally gathered after our fourth class of the day to eat. We set up a line of desks with food, drinks, plates, and utensils. Everyone ate for the entirety of the advisory, and many people complained about being very full (but I’m sure they still enjoyed it).
While my advisory did not have a specific theme for our potluck, some other advisories decided to have a theme to their food such as charcuterie boards. Other advisories went above and beyond and prepared meals or catering for their potlucks. It was so exciting to see everyone bonding and having fun together. My advisory is absolutely looking forward to our next potluck and all of our future meetings. Advisory is becoming such a fun part of every day, and I know it will continue to exceed our expectations!
