The perfect soundtrack for homecoming week was played at this year’s homecoming concert, Hoco-Chella! The event was hosted by Drake and Kendrick and showcased the incredible talent of Ascension’s student body!
The concert opened with Ascension’s rendition of “Where is My Mind?” by The Pixies. Known for its iconic guitar melody, the song was a perfect introduction to the concert, immediately energizing the crowd!
Following that, “Never Lie” by Zach Top was played. This country favorite was brought to life by the impressive vocals of Joseph Rizzuto and Miles Eldredge, who was voted “most likely to become a famous singer.”
Next up was Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange.” The heart-wrenching song moved several students to tears, creating a powerful moment of connection during Thursday’s performance.
The energy picked up again with the rock anthem “Higher” by Creed. This was an electrifying guitar performance that captivated the audience.
The soulful “Love in the Dark” by Adele, sung by Sadie Guillory, was another highlight of the concert. Sadie’s powerful vocals were beautifully complemented by a violin accompaniment from Lily St. Germain, adding depth to the performance. This ballad moved the audience, leaving a lasting impression. I had so much fun playing in this one, too!
Next, they lightened the mood with Oasis’ upbeat classic, “She’s Electric.” The fun, indie rock vibe of the song brought the concert into a high-energy groove.
After that, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Girl I’ve Always Been” was a perfect anthem for the pop music fans in the crowd. Performed as a duet with just an acoustic guitar, it was a fun continuation of the concert!
The Wallows’ “Quarterback” added another highlight to the set. Sung by seniors Ellie West and Isabel Acevedo, it was a fun addition to the setlist.
One of the most interactive moments came with Ronnie Milsap’s “If You Don’t Want Me To,” which had both students and teachers jumping up to do the iconic line dance!
The concert closed with an impressive performance of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” sung by 8th grader Annabella Delcambre. Her energetic performance was the perfect way to end an already amazing concert on a high note.
A special shoutout to Mrs. Anderson, who put together such an impressive show during her first year at Ascension!
