Last Wednesday, Gators for Others hosted a service day for students to get their school-sponsored service hours for this year. Ascension students could choose between serving at either the Desormeaux Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank, or Lafayette Animal Shelter. At the Lafayette Animal Shelter, they served their community by helping the animals in many ways. They began the excursion by listening to a short presentation about the organization’s mission and touring the facility. Any students interested in the medical field or veterinary medicine had the opportunity to watch procedures done on the animals such as rabies shots and neutering. Other students were able to interact with the animals. They walked and washed the dogs, or played with the kittens inside. While there, students witnessed a happy dog named Uno get adopted and find a family in a new forever home! It was such a heartwarming experience! This was a super fun way for students to earn service hours and serve their community, and I encourage all Ascension students and their families to consider adopting from a shelter like this one next time they are looking for a new addition to their family!

Hey guys! My name is Martha, and I am a junior this year. I’m a member of the girls' soccer team at Ascension and have a passion for the arts. I participate in many of our school's plays, musicals, and concerts. Outside of school, I train in classical ballet at The Ballet Studio (but coach McCullough thinks I dance for the Russians). I love to write and am so excited to be a part of journalism again this year!
