This week, on Thursday, August 31st, the Ascension football team will play their first football game at home. The Blue Gators will be facing off against the Plaquemine Green Devils. Last year, the Blue Gators suffered a devastating two-point loss to the Green Devils (18-16). This year, however, the outcome will be different, says starting safety Zach Price. As a matter of fact, the starting quarterback, Connor Edmond says, “Ascension is more pumped than ever to get a second chance against Plaquemine.”
Along with the first home game, the Blue Gator football team has a very special tradition. Every year the day before the first home game, the senior football players get a chance to shave the junior players’ heads. Many seniors are extremely excited about this opportunity as last year, they were the ones who had their heads shaved. On the other hand, the juniors are apprehensive about this event and are awaiting the embarrassment.
All in all, this week is full of excitement and intrigue as the first week of high school football is full of so much anticipation. I can speak for almost everyone when I say, I can’t wait.
