Among many other schools across the nation, AES has been selected to take part in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in order to represent how much our nation’s students know and can do.  Testing of specific students will take place on Thursday, March 22.

NAEP has been the largest nationally representative assessment and is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), within the U.S. Department of Education. It is known for releasing valid and reliable information on student performance since 1969. The results of the NAEP test also comprise The Nation’s Report Card, which shows about what academic level our students are on in this day and age.

“AES is proud to be represented on the NAEP test,” said Ms. Fournet.  “It’s exciting to be part of such a significant national effort.”

The testing pool includes all students born between 10/1/94 and 9/30/95.  This includes most juniors and a few sophomores.

For AES, the test in mathematics and reading will be given on on March 22, starting at 8:45 a.m. The students will also be asked questions about themselves and their educational experience along with academic subjects. This assessment usually takes about 90 minutes for most students and the results of this test are completely confidential.

This test, of course, will not affect their current grades. Students taking the test do not need to study ahead of time, but they should get plenty of rest the night before.

“Each student who takes the test will receive an hour and a half of community service because by taking the test students are helping to give the nation a clearer picture of our educational accomplishments,” said Ms. Fournet.
