On March 24th in Sugar Mill Pond there will be a mile run/walk and a 5k to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation.
Lauren Hebert, a senior at Acadiana High School and a form AES student came up with the idea from personal experience. Lauren was diagnosed with epilepsy in eighth grade after she began having seizures.
“I came up with this idea because I have epilepsy and it doesn’t get a lot of recognition, and not many people know much about it,” said Lauren.
To participate in the one mile it costs $15 and the 5k is $20, donations are also acceptable and encouraged. All the proceeds got to the Epilepsy Awareness Foundation.
“I wanted to put something together to help people understand and raise money for the foundation,” Lauren said.
Lauren also needs students to volunteer. On the day of the race, volunteers will meet in front of the Upper School gym at 7 a.m.. Throughout the day volunteers will be helping Lauren pass out shirts and bags along with timing the races and taking bib numbers when runners finish. The event should be over around 11-12. Students can volunteer by signing up on the sheet located at Ms. Boland’s desk.
Anyone with questions about the event can contact Lauren at (337) 207-8525.
