Over the past three days, the NBA has practically been turned on its head, with many of the league’s biggest starts being shipped off to new destinations. The first that comes to mind is Luka Doncic being sent to the Lakers for Antony Davis, in what may be the most blindsiding trade ever. Then there’s Jimmy Butler finally being sent to the Warriors, which has seemed like a forgone conclusion for a while. Next is De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs, putting a legitimately star level guard next to Wembanyama. Khris Middleton was traded for Kyle Kuzma, a strange decision by Milwaukee, as Kuzma is only averaging three more points per game than Middleton on much worse efficiency, with his higher points average being chalked up to just playing on a worse team. And lastly, to focus on the Pelicans for a bit, Brandon Ingram was sent to the Raptors for Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a first, and a second round pick. From here, I believe the Pelicans should fully commit to tanking once again. It might seem a bit too soon, but there is no clear way for them to become a content team with their current roster, so it’s better to just trade Zion and any other assets for picks now, instead of starting the rebuild too late and beginning with fewer assets.
