Last Wednesday, Ascension students had the opportunity to attend one of three service projects in order to complete their four required school-sponsored service hours. This was a great opportunity, not only to accomplish service hours, but to learn about the important work that these organizations promote. One of the three, The Desormeaux Foundation has a mission to support life in all stages. They provide five ministries, one being the St. Marguerite d’Youville maternity home, and they support and house homeless, pregnant mothers and offer them spiritual, medical, and educational resources. Their other ministries strive to collect resources that make their efforts possible.
Eight of us arrived at the foundation Wednesday morning and were able to see some of their facilities. Then, we went to their teaching building, which was newly created, and began to assemble flyers spreading the foundation’s purpose. We then put them into baby bottles and prepared these for the rest of our three hours there. The bottles will be distributed to various churches in the parish during the months of October to January, the foundation’s busiest months. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to be a part of such a worthwhile cause and to get to learn about the impact that the foundation has on our community and its mothers. A huge thank you to Gators For Others for organizing this event!!
