Every year Ascension has an event called Opening Convocation. It is where all three schools meet at the downtown campus. It is like one big chapel to bless the school year and all the students and faculty. It is opened by upper school students as acolytes processing down the aisle in the gym, then following after them were the seniors and kindergartners holding hands and walking to their seats. It was also the sixty-fifth anniversary of how long Ascension has been a school. The founder of Ascension, Jeanette Parker, was also in attendance and was also honored because her birthday is in October. Some of the younger students brought her a gift and balloons and the whole school sang happy birthday in French to her. Also, at the altar, students gave gifts that represented Ascension. After the service ended, they had all the grades meet outside to remake a picture that was made for the sixtieth anniversary. Although it was really hot, it was a great way to end this special annual event and a great way to start off the new school year!

Mary Frances Durio, Staff Writer
Hi guys! My name is Mary Frances Durio, and I will be a junior this school year. While being at Ascension, I am involved in many extracurricular activities such as softball, volleyball, and leadership. I have one sibling who is going to be a freshman this year at school. Some things I like to do in my free time are hanging out with friends and family, reading, and watching movies. This is my first year in journalism, and I am so excited to be a part of this team!
