This summer I spent a week in Caroline Point for Younglife’s Capernaum Camp. At this camp, some seniors and I spent time hanging out with friends that had special needs. We partook in fun activities such as ziplining, race car driving, swimming, and most importantly worship! I am so thankful I got to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity that opened my eyes to God’s greatest gift to us which is loving others just as He loved us. Here are some short testimonies from some fellow Ascension seniors who were able to experience the amazing Capernaum Camp.
“It was an eye opening experience that changed my life.” – Garret Yeates
“To be honest, I was a little wary of going to Capernaum Camp and did not know what to expect, but I am so glad I was able to spend a week there. It sounds cliche, but the camp really is an eye opener, and for me, it represents a need for more outreach in our community to people with special needs.” – Les Schouest
“Capernaum showed me that love heals. When I first arrived, I was scared to live for a week with our friends that had disabilities. On the second day, I met David and Javion. We instantly became friends and went through the rest of Capernaum together. Their love for adventure and for life continues to remind me to keep a positive mindset and to persevere through adversity.” – Noah Trawick
“I feel like my Capernaum experience was truly eye opening to those who have disabilities. I learned that these kids feel their emotions to the fullest potential and love you like no one else does. They have inspired me to do the same.’’ – Annie Boudreaux
“Capernaum was an amazing experience and truly changed my view on life for the better. You were surrounded by many people with disabilities, but they had so much joy and love, and it showed me how good life can be if you let it. Seeing their faces light up over little things that you never would have noticed before, taught me to enjoy everything in my life no matter how big or small.” – Estelle Aneslemo
