The senior and 8th-grade girls celebrated Big Sis Little Sis during the first week of school. We had a reveal and pool party to welcome the new families after the first day of school. We met our littles Friday to take pictures and bring them to the Back to School Bash to keep the celebration going. I loved getting to welcome these girls and be the ones to guide them through their first year on a new campus. This week I interviewed some of the 8th grade and senior girls to see how they felt about being a part of our tradition. I’m glad to report that they all had nice things to say about having a big sis!
McAllister Morrow is the little sis of Ellie West and Josie Bourgeois. She said her favorite thing about having big sisters is waving and saying hi to them in the hallways. Margaret Odom, the little of Annie Boudreaux and Claire Reddick, said she loved going to Addison Mills’s house to take pictures before the Back to School Bash. Alice Levin is one of Claudia Fooshee and Samantha Matt’s little sisters, and she said that she loves how she has two of the oldest girls on campus to look out for her. The 8th grader, Shelby Pisecki, has Brooke Gill and Estelle Anselmo as her bigs, and she told me that she likes how they can help her get through high school when being new at the upper campus. It is great to hear that the 8th graders enjoy this tradition and have positive feedback!
I also interviewed the senior girls to see how they felt about having a little sis and what their favorite part is so far. Margaret Odom’s big, Claire Reddick, told me that getting to teach them about the upper school campus and how it works is her favorite part. Samantha is one of Alice’s big sisters for this tradition, and she loves how we get to introduce them to all of the fun and exciting traditions at upper school Ascension!
This experience is said to be an exciting and happy treat for the senior and 8th-grade girls at Ascension. I think it is a great opportunity to have fewer first-day jitters and stress. This is a chance to get to know more people and have someone by your side for the 8th-grade girls. I think everyone sees high school as a scary place, especially if it is your first year. Just having this little privilege is meaningful and sentimental for the girls at Ascension!
