After months of anticipation, the Sophomore girls finally participated in their Sweet 16 annual celebration! This event took place on March 9, 2024 at Oakbourne. This is a tradition unique to Ascension that is organized yearly by the girls’ moms. The first step toward the process was gathering all the participants for a picture day where group photos and headshots were taken to be used during the presentation. Each girl answered a series of questions and uploaded photos, which was also for the slideshow presentation. Months and months of planning and preparation were also spent on decorations, gifts, food, tshirts, and much more!
The weekend of the event kicked off with the Sweet 16 breakfast on Friday, which was held at Lauren Roth’s house. The house was decorated with balloons, centerpieces, and banners. There were also picture set-ups and ring lights for everyone to take photos. For breakfast, there were many options provided such as fruit, chicken and waffles, donuts, and yogurt. There was also iced coffee and orange juice to drink. Each girl received a cup with their name monogrammed on it, as well as a gift including a jewelry box with a personalized bracelet. This event was definitely a success! All of the girls enjoyed spending time with each other, taking pictures, and eating the delicious breakfast!
On Saturday morning, the day of the event, all of the girls, as well as their dads, met at Oakbourne for a quick runthrough of how the night would go. After this, all of the girls went home to get ready and change into their white dresses, which are a staple of Sweet 16. Each sophomore girl and their families met at Oakbourne to take pictures before and about an hour after that, the presentation started. Each girl, lined up in alphabetical order, walked down the aisle towards the stage joined by their dads. As they walked, their presentations were read and their baby pictures were shown to the crowd. After each name was called, every dad and daughter went to the floor and danced to the song “Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift. The after festivities included cake, dancing, and visiting with family and friends. Sweet 16 is a beloved tradition and is an event that the Sophomore girls will remember for years to come!
