My senior soccer season was one I will not forget. I could not wait to get this season started and play my last year of soccer for Ascension. I was so head-on about this season I had no fears or worries looking into the future. We did so much team bonding, like Big Sis Little Sis and other activities, my personal favorite being laser tag. I had high hopes and expectations to bring this team bonding to the field. Everything was going great until the third game of the season. With four minutes left against Houma Christian a player took out my knee and ended up leaving me with a torn ACL. This changed everything, not only for me but for my team as well. When I was told I would not be able to finish this season I was heartbroken. I did not know how I was going to be there for my team, be supportive, and continue to be a leader when I was not active on the field. Soon for me, practice became physical therapy while also being stuck on crutches (they’re absolutely the worst). Surprisingly, I was so ready and prepared for surgery, wanting to get it over with. This is one of the hardest battles I’ve had to face, physically and mentally. One thing I kept in mind was what was I gaining from this or what will I learn from going through this? I learned the hard way that things take time. It is going to take months for me to fully recover. I learned that patience was going to be an oncoming theme while accepting the things I was not going to be able to fix or change. This was a major learning experience to slow down. An experience to take life a little slower and be appreciative of what you have.

Gabby Piasecki, Staff Writer
Hi! My name is Gabby Piasecki, and this is my second year being a staff writer in Journalism! I am a senior, and I'm on the volleyball and soccer teams. This year I am the athletic prefect! I love Ascension because you can be involved in so many things. I try to be involved in as many things as I can, such as supporting all the athletes at games, planning pep rallies, and planning the Gator Cup games. I am so excited to work with such a great team in Journalism!
