A Lafayette, Louisiana tradition is the Rio Parade, a kickoff to Mardi Gras put on by the Krewe of Carnivale de Rio. This parade takes place in the streets of downtown Lafayette bringing together people from all over to celebrate the culture and festivities. The parade is well known for its colorful floats, each themed and decorated, as well as the local dancers and bands, incorporating local life and youth into the parades. These parades are appreciated not only by locals, but by people all over. This is a tradition that brings people in to celebrate our culture and embrace something that is very unique to Louisiana! This year rain was forecasted for the entire night, but the rain stopped just an hour before the parade, getting everyone excited for a rain free night of celebration!

Hi guys! My name is Noelle Kates, and Ascension has been a part of my life since Pre-K. I’ve been here at Ascension for 13 years, and I’ve been a part of the cheer team for 5 years! I truly love Ascension and everything it has to offer, not only academically but outside of the classroom, too! Some of my favorite parts of Ascension are the football games, pep rallies, and other activities our leadership team puts together! Outside of school, I love to spend time with my friends and family! I’m so excited to see what this year has in stock for me and my Ascension family!!!
