Homecoming week is full of excitement, fun, late nights, dances, and life-long memories. This homecoming week consisted of Junior/Senior war, teacher games, parades, Powderpuff, the Homecoming concert, class games, sporting events, and many more fun activities.
Sunday:
The Prefects and Class Leaders from each grade came up with a theme to decorate each grade hallway: Seniors had the main hallway, Juniors had the science hallway, Sophomores had the English hallway, Freshmen had the Math hallway, and Ochos had the Foreign Language/Art hallway. Hallway decorations started at 1 and ended at 6, giving everyone enough time to make an appearance and help decorate. The Senior theme was Seniors Last Disco, Juniors was Luau Party, Sophomores was Glow, Freshmen was Barbie, and the Ochos was Fiesta. The Seniors also kicked off the Junior/Senior war that night by wrapping some of the Juniors’ houses.
Monday:
Monday was the first dress-up day of the week, being Decades, where students chose a decade and dressed like someone from that time. The Senior class also decided collectively to wear togas. Monday night was also the Juniors’ first night to hit the Seniors’ houses.
Tuesday:
Tuesday’s dress-up theme was twin day, so students chose someone to pair up with and dressed identically. Also, on Tuesday morning, the senior football players and Homecoming Court headed to the River Ranch Campus to lead morning carpool.. During the break, we had the Teacher Challenge, which, through a series of different games, proved who “the ultimate teacher is.” Throughout all of the games, Mrs. Hall was deemed the Ultimate Teacher! Our JV and Varsity Volleyball teams had a home game against LCA that night, allowing the student section to dress up for the theme country club. Also, Tuesday night was the Seniors’ turn to hit the Juniors’ houses.
Wednesday:
On Wednesday, students dressed up as their favorite athletes or in regular tailgate attire, as the theme was Tailgate. At the break, all students reported to the practice field to start the Powderpuff playoffs. The Ochos faced the Freshmen, the Juniors played the Sophomores, and the Seniors got a bye from the first round. The Seniors then faced the Freshmen, and the Seniors won. Lastly, the Juniors beat the Sophomores, resulting in the Championship being between the Seniors and the Juniors. Then, later that school day, the Homecoming Court, Football team, Cheerleaders, and Ochos were bussed to the Downtown Campus to attend the Middle School pep rally. That night, the volleyball teams faced Barbe at home, allowing the student section to dress like Barbie and Ken for the theme. This night was also the Juniors’ turn to hit the Seniors’ houses.
Thursday:
On Thursday, the students dressed as their favorite music artists following the day’s theme of Artist Day. The Homecoming concert was held during break, being sung by many different groups of students! During this, Molly Cormier had created two separate videos, one being a recap of the events that happened during the week, and another being a stop motion video. Some of the art students also unveiled their painting project, which was created with popping paint balloons. Along with this, the student superlatives were announced, as well, in between each performance. Later that night was the Homecoming Parade, where all of the fall sports athletes and the Homecoming Court were driven in floats around Sugar Mill Pond and into the school parking lot all while throwing beads, cups, noise makers, and many more to the people along the parade route. After this took place, there was Jambalaya being served leading up to the Powderpuff Championship that was held on the football field. The Seniors faced the Juniors in the championship and the halftime performance was performed by the Junior and Senior boys dressed in cheer uniforms. After halftime, the Seniors and Juniors ended the game in a tie, but it was decided that Seniors were the winners by a rock paper scissors battle between the two teams’ quarterbacks. To end the night, it was the Seniors’ last night to wrap the Juniors’ houses, leading to the end of the Junior/Senior war.
Friday:
The last day of Homecoming week, all of the students dressed in their respective class colors. Seniors wore Carolina blue, Juniors wore white, Sophomores wore red, Freshmen wore green, and Ochos wore orange. At the pep rally, Homecoming Court was presented, class games were played, Gator Jazz and Varsity Cheer performed, the Senior cheer and football moms surprised everyone with a performance, Peyton Peebles was announced as our Homecoming King, and lastly the sophomores were presented with the golden present, meaning they had won Homecoming Week, (but come to find out that the Seniors had actually won). After the pep rally, students went home to get ready for the Homecoming football game that was played between our football boys and Breaux Bridge. Homecoming Court was led onto the football field in their convertibles, making their way to the stage to wait till halftime to be presented. But, an unfortunate turn of events occurred when there was a rain delay that delayed the game until 8, causing the Homecoming Court presentation to be held inside. After the long wait, it was announced that our First Maid was Mamie Mendell and our Homecoming Queen was Brianna Gayle.
Saturday:
On Saturday, the festivities were still not over just yet. It was finally the day of the Homecoming Dance that everyone had been waiting for. The dance at school had started at 8 and ended at 10. After the dance, it was finally the end of this memorable Homecoming Week!
