Volleyball Heads to State

Volleyball season is coming to an end shortly, much to the disappointment of the senior volleyball girls and their fans. This weekend is the volleyball state championship (which we hoepfully are going to win). And I have to say, I think we got a really good chance!

So far this season the girls went 28-10, led by seniors Addie Vidrine, Alaina Hardy, Hannah Mattke, Elayna Harris, Ann Louise Babineaux, Ashlee Sandridge, Lizzy Hall, and Katherine Broussard. These seniors were part of the team that beat Country Day in the semi-finals when they were freshman, so just imagine what they can do now. They played STM and won for the second year in a row, and they also destroyed LCA… TWICE.

Thursday is the quarter finals, and when asked about how her team is going to do Coach Jill said she is “confident in my girls ability to perform under the pressure that state brings with it.” They play McGehee on Thursday, the winner of the Episcopal of Acadiana and Central Catholic game on Friday, and will hopefully progress to play in the finals on Saturday.

I have faith that our Ascension Gators are going to kill it this week because of all the hard work they have put in all season! They have practiced nonstop since the beginning, but managed to keep it fun. In the past two weeks, I have personally seen the volleyball girls practice in costumes and dresses (this is what happens when seniors get to lead practice and we love it). Despite the craziness at practice, the girls have played their “best volleyball these past couple of weeks”, according to Coach Jill. On behalf of the entire Ascension population, I’d like to say good luck to these girls — ya’ll are gonna do great!
